Help a fellow kiteboarder in need after accident.....

http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2371781On Friday, August 12th, Theo Fusban was kiteboarding off the sandbar in Hood River when he hit his head hard on the shallow bottom. He was airlifted to OHSU in Portland. Surgeons worked for seven hours to repair a severely damaged C5 vertebrae. At this point, Theo still has not regained movement in his arms or legs.

Theo is a German exchange student staying with Cory and Terese Roessler and their sons, Levi and Trey, here in Hood River. He’s seventeen years old, full of life, an avid adventurer, and an amazing kite boarder.

The Hood River Fire Soccer Club (a member of the Dynamo organization) is going to have a “Dribbleathon” on Saturday, August 20th, at 10am at The Marina Green. The Fire players, 12 and 13 yo girls, will dribble a soccer ball for two miles in support of Theo.

They are asking for donations to help Theo’s family in this time of need. As one can imagine, these would be heavy emotional and financial hurdles for any family. They have flown in from Germany to be with Theo at the hospital.

Everyone is remaining positive. Praying & hoping Theo will wiggle a toe, move a finger, & feel a person’s touch.

Also if you know of any positive stories from similar injuries, please post them. He needs inspiration to stay strong.

We want to show our support as a community for this brave young man.

Please make checks out to ”Hood River Fire Soccer Club.”. Mail checks to

West Derby dad describes rescue by kitesurfer off Welsh coast

Well done Scotty from AIRFORCE KITE SCHOOL

West Derby dad describes rescue by kitesurfer off Welsh coast

A DAD who almost drowned when he was swept away by a lethal current described the moment a kitesurfer rescued him.

John Scott, 55, was enjoying a weekend away with his friends when he ventured into the sea on Saturday afternoon.

A powerful current swept him away from the shore on Shell Island, in Wales, along with his friends Joe Wilton, 58, and Adam Bradley, 15.

The three swimmers tried to fight against the current, but only Joe and Adam made it to the safety of a sandbank.

John, a self-employed heating engineer from West Derby, was left in the swell as his energy ebbed away.

But kitesurfer Chris Scott, from Tarleton, near Southport, sped to the rescue and plucked him from the sea.

Kitesurfer instructor Chris, 45, said: “A flare went up and I went back down the beach to look. Two lads were in the water swimming and shouting and pointing out to sea, so I set off to see what was going on.

“There was a fellow bobbing halfway out. I kept downwind so he would not grab hold of me. I said ‘hold on to this harness and I will get us both back in’.” Chris said he feared John would grab onto the board in panic, sinking them both.

John told the ECHO: “I was out of it. I had tunnel vision, it was all black.

“I would not have lasted if Chris was not there.”

John’s daughter Carys, 14, was watching from the shore.

Dad-of-two John said: “I was just thinking ‘poor Carys’. I felt so bad for her because I thought I was gone.”

Adam’s dad Kevin was also watching from the beach when he saw they had disappeared.

He said: “I could not believe how quickly it happened. My heart just fell to the ground.”

Kevin, of Bootle, called the Coastguard at 2.21pm and after they were rescued, the floor-fitter celebrated their good fortune by buying three lottery lucky dips – John’s numbers were 14 and 21.

The group are now fundraising for Southport Lifeboat.

Check This Out Guys Perfect Solution For The Easterly Winds .......

Wakeboarding in Liverpool

Liverpool Docks is currently playing host to a System 2.0 Wake Park from 29th April to 8th May. It is all part of a big maritime festival called Spring On The Waterfront. Industry Wake Parks have installed the System 2.0 and are running the wake park for the 10 day limited period. The weather so far has been unreal with the sun burning strong and the water flat calm every day.

The System is setup over a 120 meter length of water and is over 10 meters high! This means that it is the perfect learning tool for air tricks. People have been learning rolls and raleys and all sorts with an extremely quick learning curve. James Hackney stuck a back mobe on his first try! If you have some experience of wakeboarding you will be able to learn a raley in an hour quite easily.

There is pro coaching from Dave Knight, Tim Woodhead and Toby Yeo and the wake park has been teaching a good mix of beginners and advanced riders. For the beginners it is a 100% pass rate so far.

Have a look at the pictures below to see the setup.

Latest reviews on kitesurfing equipment

2011 Best Beginner Package deals .......

North Neo + Gonzales Board - 9m kite/bar & 135 gonzales board £1089

This is our number 1 package deal for the year great kite, looks the part, best bar on the market. North kites are usually out of the price bracket of most newcomers to the sport. This season they truely have got there price point spot on with this deal. Bearing in mind the kite alone costs over £1000, they are virtually giving you the board for free. I rode the board the other day and trust me this is a sweet board probably not for the highest level riders but super smooth through the chop, very stable and blasts up wind nice graphics and bomb proof construction. I have riden many high end boards this season that didnt come close to it performance wise.

Here is what North have to say:

- Freeride / Wave / New School
- simple Freeride / Wave all-round performance
- 3 struts
- easy and comfortable in any point of view
- easy, direct bar feedback
- Progression 11
- TechnoForce D2

If you are looking for an easy, comfortable Kite with huge
depower and lively steering characteristics, you just found it.
The softer structure of the Neo is the key to high reactivity
in steering, combined with the huge depower the Neo
feels also absolutely at home in waves. The Neo emerges
in the North kites line-up as a comfortable and super easy
handling all-rounder with an easy relaunch and predictable
bar feedback. Although we’ve kept a keen eye on simplicity
with it’s 3 strut configuration, the Neo boasts all of our
highest quality North Progression 11 construction details
for lasting durability and sleek looks. The Neo’s round and
compact shape flies equally well on 4 or 5 lines making
it a great kite for a wide range of riders and riding styles.
Freeriding in freedom.

Slingshot Rally + Beginner/Intermediate Board - 8m or 10m kite/bar & 135cm board apporx £1380.00

Slingshot one of the worlds top brands now have a great kite for the beginner intermediate and freeride kiter. There first season with a 3 strut delta and they have hit the ground running. Although this is not there cheapest entry level kite we are recomending this package as it is far superior to the Key package.

Here is what Slingshot have to say:

New for 2011, Slingshot introduces the Rally. We extracted C kite DNA from both our legendary Fuel and RPM, and added the third element of the Delta shape to create the industry first Open Delta C kite. The Rally and the new Open Delta C kite platform delivers all the desirable features of a Delta coupled with the performance feel of a C kite. The Rally is the choice for crossover freestyle and excellent in surf!

Cabrinha Convert + Beginner/Intermediate Board - 9m kite/bar & 135 board approx £1180.00

At Airforce we are still loving the Cabrinha kite good all around performance great wind range, a true all rounder. We cant fault the build quality, only downside prices have shot up a bit this year. The biggest improvements in 2011 for cabrinha are on the bar.

Here is what Cabrinha say:

If you were stuck on a deserted island and could only have one kite with you.... you would be best off with a Convert kite. The Convert performs in any and all conditions with the ease and handling of a throroughbread Cabrinha kite. Its robust build and no compromise IDS security system assures an exciting, and secure experience in and out of the water. When it comes to value, the Convert can't be beat. The Convert uses many of the materials of our pro kites and comes complete with our Powerdrive IDS control system. Whether you are a ?rst time rider or an aspiring pro the Convert kite will deliver the performance and handling you deserve.

  • Enhanced relaunch especially in the larger sizes
  • New LE closing seam construction
  • Lighter bladders in 14 size
  • Tuning options
  • IDS bridle
  • Powerdrive IDS
  • Sprint

2011 KITES TRIED & TESTED FORGET THE HYPE REAL OVERVIEW............THE GOOD ! BAD ! AND THE UGLY !

Sunset Borocay White BeachImage via WikipediaHi guys been a while still in Boracay for 1 more month enjoying the sunshine wind has been great recently such a good time this season, although the work has been decideingly slow......oh well nice to have a break.

Anyway enough nonsense lets get down to the nitty gritty this years kites............

North:
Expensive, tough to find a good price on the gear but what a season they having this year.....the new material seems to be holding up pretty well but only time will tell on it.There has been a few problems with the strut bladders but only seems to be on the Asian batch, not on any of the European kites.Still not keen on how Fast the components wear on the bar but that aside it works very well and does what it should.Major problem with the vegas do not set it up on the wakestyle setting as the buffers on the leading edge are not big enough and wearing a hole in the dacron.

Vegas
Most user friendly C kite on the market good wind range better low end power than 2010 good depower.Great kite unhooked and good for learning kite loops.

Evo
Still one of the best most stable deltas on the market good wind range ease of use great fun kite much more versatile than the vegas.Good unhooked performance soft kite loops probably the kite most people will prefer.

Neo
The intro pacakage kite what can i say great value.I am pretty sure it is a tweaked version of the 09 evo to save on r&d.Was and is a great kite heavier on the bar than the new evo not quite as smooth but great all rounder and stable massive range.

Slingshot
Still destinctive loving the look of the fuel this season.Good build quality something for everyone in thier range.Problems the bar is the hardest wearing bar on the market.Still not a fan af the below the bar depower on the standard bar.Big problem with it too think they rectified it on the later releases but if you put it on full power cracks the chicken loop i.e plastic to plastic leave 1cm of rope or it will break the release mechanism and your chicken loop will keep opening.

Fuel
Still hardcore small windrange but great kite. Not much change to the kite.Balls out but great Ckite

Rpm
Smoothest kite on the market fast direct great fun.Not the most powerful but good range great unhooked, super smooth loops no spikes in the power.Doesnt jump so high but those looking for C kite feel without killing themselves this is your kite.

Rally
Slingshots first Delta and they hit the ground running as good as the Evo nice easy to use great range. The kite for most people.

Cabrinha
Upgraded the new material again.Great build Quality doesent seem to be any problems with the kite or the bar.New bar with the spring is a sweet upgrade.Best windrange big problems with there boards and footstraps this year though.Boards delaminateing and snapping footstraps toughened but not mounts so cracking broken ankles anyone???

Nomad
C kite style fast direct nice loops good unhooked. Not good low end so make sure you go a size bigger

Switchblade
Slightly less powerful than last years but biggest windrange performance kite on the market.Jumps like hell lots of hangtime very powerfull kiteloops.alround powerful kite the average rider cannot go wrong with this kite.If you only buying 1 kite this is for you.

Convert
cheaper than the switchblade and i cant see why very similar easier relaunch still great kite for every level.Slightly less powerful kiteloop and doesnt jump quite as high as the switchblade but a great kite.

Airush
Are back with avengance nice simple bar always good build quality only tried the vapor X and the razor but great kites.

Razor
pro model C kite nicest kite i have ridden this year 1/2 way between vegas and fuel and jumps so high.True true true oldschool Ckite but well balanced and enough depower, not as much as the vegas but enough.

Vapor X
highbred C kite same vain as the vegas and Rpm good allrounder bit softer but now i remember why airush used to be so big thier kites jump High.

F-one
2011 is not there year.quite a few problems with the bar chicken loop opening for no reason the bandit this year does not relaunch in light wind. Not ripping as much as the bandit3 but still seen quite a few in 2 pieces. The boards looking and rideing sweet though. The new bandit does fly quite well in the air this year has massive hangtime ,good low end and looks really cool and im sure they will iron out the problems for 2012 but would stick to there boards this year.

These are the kite i have tried and tested so far all have there good and bad points these are my frank and honest opinions.Hope they are helpful to you.
